than novice level--no landed triples

freiends got 1st--stith and tammy

Gienafer L:	Bells on her costume?  Sounds like a violation of the Katarina
rule!
SKATINGMOM:	Kirk--aka Planet x was a great little skater--got 2nd place in
novice
SKToy:	Won't the ringing from all those bells be quite a disturbance?  :)
SKATINGMOM:	the judges told her to remove them before nationals

Midori Ito doing the triple toe-

SKATINGMOM:	coast is determined by elimination rounds at regionals--so no
more than 13 in any event

SKATINGMOM:	men start triples at novice level--top guy had a triple combo and
double axle
BrendaW660:	Mine are being FedExed even as we speak.  Should arrive tomorrow

Gienafer L:	How can 17 and 18 year olds compete as novices?

SKATINGMOM:	you can compete any level till 25
SKATINGMOM:	level is determined by tests passed--
SKToy:	Is there an age limit for Seniors?
SKToy:	the Senior Level
SKATINGMOM:	no--urbanski is 34 isnt she???
Gienafer L:	I think you have to be at least 14, but they make exceptions,
such as Michelle Kwan.
BrendaW660:	BTW, I called the USFSA after one of the regionals and asked for
senior mens results.  THey gave me

BrendaW660:	names I'd never heard of.  Turns out they were ADULT senior men
SKATINGMOM:	that is a funny group--i announced them
SKToy:	I guess you have to be extremely specific with them at USFSA
SKATINGMOM:	over 25--no test requirements
BrendaW660:	BUt I even said, that doesn't sound right.  The person I talked
with had no clue.

SKATINGMOM:	i shall post all national qualifiers this week--usfsa pr office
is sending them to me

SKToy:	What was the word with Tonya?  How did she skate at NHK?  The Mercury
Center had an article,

SKATINGMOM:	yes
SKToy:	but it just saide she did 5 different jumps including a triple Lutz
SKATINGMOM:	too many byes this year
BrendaW660:	Means lots 'o competitors at Nationals.
SKToy:	Did that mean 5 different TRIPLE jumps?
SKATINGMOM:	we lost 4 pairs at coast due to byes--so worst 4 in region
qualified
BrendaW660:	12 qualifying at sectionals, plus all the byes
SKToy:	I read somewhere there's going to be 30 competitors for the Men's Free
Style
SKToy:	Senior, that is
SKATINGMOM:	Dan got a bye to juvi nats but we turned it down thisyear--they
give it at all levels
Gienafer L:	That's a lot of men.
BrendaW660:	I can't believe 18 people got byes.  What gives?

qualify after their first year

LeeAnn 1:	That would be frustrating to get to the Olympics and not be able to
do both of your programs.
SKToy:	She recycled the beginning section from her 89-90 Long Program

Nebula5:	And the short/technical programs don't get as much TV coverage
SKToy:	That's competition.  David Liu didn't qualify for the Long Program at
Calgary in 88
BrendaW660:	David Liu is such a beautiful skater ... it's a shame he's not
doing better this year
SKToy:	I hope CBS gives us more skating coverage since skating brought in the
highest ratings for them in 92

Gienafer L:	Well, CBS will show the Americans.

SKToy:	The thing I hate is joining in a program midway after commercials
Gienafer L:	They'll show both Americans, plus Surya, Oksana, and Lu Chen.
And Witt if she makes it.
SKToy:	Doesn't look like Roca and Sur will go to the Olympics
STERLINGK8:	each program twice for Brian at Skate ametica

LeeAnn 1:	I have a friend who has a theory that Tonya's problem is her gold
blades. She hasn't done well since

America
